Who hasn’t ever had dreams of being a Princess, a Queen or even a Goddess in Ancient Egyptian times? Well, your dreams can come true and you can let your imagination run riot. Royalty such as princesses and Queens would wear the most amazing jewelry made of colorful gems and beads. These are depicted in the costumes in the form of collars, belts, headpieces and bracelets. Jewelry was extremely important as not only were they used for beauty, but were thought to have magical and protective properties. I particularly love the elaborate neck collars which were made up of many rows of beads and gemstones in amazing colors such as blue, green and red. The neck collars would often be accompanied by matching earrings.
If you want to be a goddess, then how about Isis, one of the great goddesses of Egypt? She was the goddess of love, sexuality, health, healing and immortality. In many works of art Isis is depicted with wings, having a throne perched on top of her head or a headdress with horns surrounding a sun disk. She is certainly a goddess to aspire to as she was seen as a devoted wife and perfect mother.
Whether you want to dress up as Cleopatra, a teen princess or as a budding goddess there are many costumes to choose from. Don’t forget to finish the look with gold sandals and perhaps you if want to go for the full look, a wig. In fact, if you don’t want to extend yourself to a full costume, you could purchase a wig or headpiece to wear with an outfit of your own choice, as long as you “Walk like an Egyptian” as the Bangles record goes.
